i see alot of people attaching files with.rss extensions. Are these allen bradley files? Must you have rs logix installed in your computer to view these files?

Simply, yes and yes. The files can also be viewed with the RSLadder500 ActiveX control running in a suitable container. (By "suitable" I mean "Rockwell")

... but if there's something that you're REALLY interested in seeing, you can post a request to that effect ... many of us have the ability to convert an .RSS file into .PDF format ... you can open and read those with the free Adobe Reader ...

but then all of that poses the following question ... if you don't have RSLogix500 available anyway, then why would you want to read the file? ...

anyway ... there's a sample of the technique in this post ... see if the same idea would work for you ... if so, just post a request for an .RSS-to-.PDF conversion and give us a link to the file ... usually some kind soul will come along very soon and post something to accommodate you ...

 

What about rslogix 5000. If i had that software would i be able to open 500 files with it?

 

Simply, no. Logix5000 can covert one of the older SLC file formats, .slc, but not .rss. It probably won't be a total conversion as not all the SLC instructions are used in CLX and the data tables are replaced with array tags in any case.

It's a simple matter to conver a .rss to a .slc however; you can do it with Logix500

 

you know there IS a free version of RSLogix500 available for download at this webpage ... (the link is sometimes hard to see but it’s right under the picture of the MicroLogix) ...

the problem is that this particular free “starter version” is a stripped-down model that works ONLY with one very small model of MicroLogix 1000 processor ... so the bad news is that it won’t allow you to open most of the .RSS files posted on the forum ...

but still ... it’s free ... and it might be something to play around with while you’re just getting started ...
